Cookie policy
This page explains the cookies and similar storage technologies used on happystcksceneroster.com, what each category is for, and how to change or withdraw your choice at any time.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. Similar technologies, including local storage, do a comparable job using a different mechanism. Both allow a site to remember something between page views — a preference, a session, or the fact that you have already answered a question.
Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and the UK General Data Protection Regulation, cookies that are strictly necessary to deliver a service you have requested may be used without consent. Everything else requires your agreement before it is set, and that agreement must be as easy to withdraw as it is to give.
The banner and your choice
When you first arrive, a banner appears at the foot of the page with three options: Accept All, Reject Non-Essential, and Preferences. Accept All permits every category described below. Reject Non-Essential limits storage to the essential category. Preferences opens a panel where analytics and functional categories can be switched on or off individually before saving.
Your choice is recorded in your browser's local storage under the key happystck_cookie_choice so that the banner does not appear again on every page. Clearing your browsing data removes that record and the banner will return on your next visit, which is also the simplest way to change your mind.
Categories used on this site
| Category | Name or type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | happystck_cookie_choice (local storage) | Records the cookie choice you made in the banner so it is not shown again | Until you clear browser storage |
| Essential | Hosting and security session identifiers | Delivers pages, balances load and helps block abusive traffic | Session, or a short operational period |
| Analytics | First-party measurement cookie | Counts page views and navigation paths in aggregate so we can see which pages are read. Set only after you accept analytics cookies | Up to 13 months |
| Functional | Display preference storage | Remembers optional display settings you choose on the site. Set only after you accept functional cookies | Up to 12 months |
About the analytics category
Analytics storage is used to understand which pages are read and how visitors move between them. It is aggregate by design: we are interested in whether the franchise page is read more than the design page, not in the behaviour of any individual. Analytics storage is set only where consent has been given through the banner or the preferences panel, and it is not used for advertising, profiling or any automated decision-making. If you reject non-essential cookies, no analytics storage is written.
Third-party cookies
We do not host advertising, and we do not embed social media widgets, comment systems or tracking pixels on our pages. Where a page links out to an external site such as a museum collection or a news archive, that site sets its own cookies once you arrive there, under its own policy. We have no control over those cookies and cannot change or delete them on your behalf.
Controlling cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies and site data. The settings are usually found under privacy or site permissions: in Google Chrome under Privacy and security, in Mozilla Firefox under Privacy & Security, in Apple Safari under Privacy, and in Microsoft Edge under Cookies and site permissions. Most browsers also offer a private or incognito window that discards storage when the window is closed, and a "do not track" or global privacy control signal that some sites honour.
Blocking all cookies and local storage will not prevent you from reading this site, but the cookie banner will reappear on every page, because the record of your choice is exactly the thing you have blocked.
Changes to this policy
If we add, remove or change a cookie category, we will update this page and, where the change affects consent, ask again through the banner. Related information about personal data, retention and your rights is set out in the privacy policy.
